Choosing A Contractor

Choosing a plumbing contractor can be a daunting task, but one that cannot
be considered lightly. Of course, the best time to choose a plumber is
before the emergency arises, but this cannot always be avoided.
If you have the time to choose on ahead of time, it is always best practice to
do so. However, when the ceiling is leaking water, your toilets won't
flush or your sink is backing up with brownish water, you have to make some
educated decisions and fast.
Below is a short guide for you to follow.
- If you happen to know someone else that owns a home, give them a quick call to
see if they have used anyone that they can recommend.
- If you have contacts with a builder or a general contractor, call them to see
who they use when they subcontract plumbing work out.
- Call your real estate agent to see if they can recommend a plumber.
- If you can't get a recommendation from an acquaintance, pick up the yellow pages
and gather 4-5 to contact. Don't leave your name, just a brief message and
your phone number.
- Once you get to talk to them, ask them for references, license number and a copy
of their insurance paperwork
- Most plumbers will give you a free estimate to do the job at hand. Most
will give you a ceiling price as well. This is an important step. A
reputable plumber will not hesitate to do this for you.
- Ask them if they carry a service warranty on their work. If not, move to
the next one in line.
- Call their references! Don't forget this step.
